Toptal is a global freelancing platform that connects businesses with software engineers, designers, finance experts, product managers, and project managers. The company was founded in 2010 and has since grown to become one of the largest and most well-known platforms for hiring remote talent.
In 2023 and 2024 I worked with the company’s content marketing team to (ghost)write, edit, and publish technical articles for the engineering blog. This involved close collaboration with subject matter experts from the talent platform as well as the editorial, SEO, and graphic design teams.
Here are some of the projects I worked on at Toptal:
One of the most interesting articles I wrote was Increase Developer Productivity With Generative AI. For this piece, I interviewed three different software engineers from different niches to learn about how they use LLMs and generative AI in their daily work. I worked on several ghostwriting projects for engineers who wanted to share their expertise with the Toptal community. I would interview the engineer, write a draft based on the conversation, and then work with them to revise and finalize the article through the editorial process. The articles were published under the engineer’s name, but I was responsible for the majority of the writing and editing. These pieces were often outside of my own expertise, and I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from the engineers I worked with.
Toptal’s content marketing team is focused on creating high-quality SEO content that ranks well in search engines and drives traffic to the platform. The strategy for this content is to provide hiring managers and decision-makers with valuable insights and actionable advice on how to hire and manage remote talent. The articles follow a consistent structure and format, and are tailored to specific keywords and search intent. I worked on a number of articles that were part of this strategy, including:
